SUNRISE, Fla. - The South Florida chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association (PHWA) announced today that Florida Panthers forward Patric Hornqvist has been selected as the club's 2022-23 nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.
Hornqvist, 36, has skated in 22 games with Florida in 2022-23, recording three points (1-2-3). He has missed most of the campaign with an upper-body injury suffered Dec. 3 at Seattle.

A veteran of 15 NHL seasons, the 5-foot-11, 189-pound native of Sollentuna, Sweden has served as an alternate captain for the Panthers since 2020-21. The two-time Stanley Cup champion (2015-16 and 2016-17) has amassed 543 points (264-279-543) over 901 career games between the Nashville Predators (2008-09 to 2013-14), Pittsburgh Penguins (2014-15 to 2019-20) and Florida (2020-21 to 2022-23). He has also skated in 106 career postseason games, logging 53 points (28-25-53). He ranks second all-time among Swedish-born forwards with 1,421 career hits.
The Masterton Trophy winner is selected from a poll of the 32 chapters of the PHWA at the end of the regular season. Each of the 32 PHWA member chapters nominated a player from the 32 NHL clubs they cover.
The PHWA first presented the Masterton Trophy in 1968 to commemorate the late Bill Masterton, a player with the Minnesota North Stars, who exhibited to a high degree the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Masterton died January 15, 1968 following an injury suffered in a game.
