SUNRISE, Fla. -The Florida Panthers announced today a new partnership with University of Miami UOnline as their official online higher education partner. The Panthers and UM will work together to launch an annual internship program to give local Sport Administration Master's program students real-life experience of working in the sports and entertainment industry. Students will work year-round in various departments within the Panthers organization to get hands-on experience and assist in business operations.

"University of Miami's Master's Program in Sport Administration is perennially one of the most respected programs in the country, so we are delighted to have this partnership in place granting access and placement to the Miami UOnline students within the Florida Panthers organization," said Panthers Executive Vice President of People & Facilites Rob Stevenson.

"This is truly an excellent opportunity for the University and UOnline students," said Rebecca MacMillan Fox, Dean of the Division of Continuing and International Education (DCIE) and UOnline. "Not only will our students get direct, hands-on experience through internships with the team, they will also be able to build relationships that could lead to full-time positions in the future."

In addition to the partnership, UOnline will create a new online 'Hockey 101' educational course to educate students in the sport of hockey. This course is free and available to both university students and hockey fans.

The non-credit course will consist of three parts: Hockey 101, Hockey 201, Hockey 301 and will be hosted by UOnline and Panthers official website. Those who complete the class will receive a certificate of completion.

Created by the University of Miami's Distance Learning Institute along with guidance from the Panthers, the course covers topics from the origins of modern ice hockey to the basic rules of the game and the structure of the National Hockey League and more.
