Panthers Mailbag: Knight and Lundell
You asked, they answered. Check out the first 'Panthers Mailbag' of the 2022-23 season featuring the dynamic duo of Spencer Knight and Anton Lundell
Knight (Question 1): Do you enjoy looking at signs during warmups? If so, do you have a favorite one?
Lundell: I do. I like to look around at what all the young fans bring to the games. I have to say that I really like the big Lomberg head. That's my favorite.
Knight: Yeah, that's a good one.
Knight (Question 2): What's your favorite city to visit on the road during the season?
Lundell: There's a lot of good cities for me. Almost every city is a city that I've never been to before. I have to say that New York is probably the best so far. Los Angeles is also really nice and a fun time.
Knight:There ya go, the Big Apple!
Knight (Question 3): If you were a goalie, what would you have on your mask?
Lundell: Well, my dad played professional as a goalie for 18 years. He always had my name and my brother's name on the back of his mask. I would have, at some point, the names from my family on the mask.
Knight (Question 4): What's been the biggest challenge for you in transitioning to the NHL?
Lundell: Maybe it's all the games. We play so many games. Every second day there's a game. That's the biggest adjustment. You have to be in good shape because you have to be at your best every second day. That's a challenge, but at the same time we have to recover good and stay fresh for the next games.
Knight (Question 5): What's your favorite Christmas movie?
Lundell:My favorite Christmas movie is "Home Alone."
Knight:That's a good one. We should watch that on the plane.
Lundell: Oh yeah, we've got some time to watch some movies.
Knight (Question 6): How do you like to spend your time off?
Lundell: I like to relax a lot. It's pretty tough with the travel and all the games. I like to go outside and take some walks. Once in a while I'll go to the beach and take in some sun. It's more just trying to relax and trying to recover for the next game.
Knight (Question 7): What's your favorite thing to eat back home in Finland?
Lundell:That's a good one. I have to say that I love the Finnish chocolate.
Knight (Question 8): Would you rather fight a horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?
Lundell:Probably one big duck because the horses are pretty strong.
Knight:Yeah, I don't even know. I've never heard that one before.
Lundell: If there was an option for no fighting, I'd take that.
Knight (Question 9): What's the best present you got for your 21st birthday?
Lundell: I got so many birthday wishes. It felt like it was two weeks of birthdays. Probably the cake at the rink. That was a huge cake with my picture on top of it and all the guys were able to eat from that. That was pretty cool.
Knight: You also got ice cream that night. I bought that.
Lundell: Yeah, that was good. Thank you for that *laughs*
Lundell (Question 7): How has being around Sergei Bobrovsky helped you improve your game?
Knight: Yeah, I obviously grew up watching him a lot when he was in Columbus. On the ice there's obviously a lot of things I can pick up on, but I think what I've learned from him is more off the ice with how he approaches the game. He stays so levelehaded and even-keeled. He never lashes out, which is something that I admire. When things are good he's humble and when things don't go how he wants them to he keeps his head very high. I think that's something that, as a goalie, can take a while and is hard to do sometimes. If you can find a way to do it, it's great. He's been showing me how to do that.
Lundell (Question 8): Is cereal a soup?
Knight: No. Next question.
Lundell: [Laughs]
Lundell (Question 9): What was it like facing Anton Lundell at the World Juniors in 2021?
Knight:It was good. You were drafted by then, right?
Lundell:Yeah. That was the tournament you won.
Knight:Yeah, that was fun because I knew that you and I would be playing together soon. Finland is always hard to play against. They always have a great team every year. At the end of the day, it was nice just looking at you and knowing I'd get to play with a guy like that soon.
Lundell:But we lost to you in the semifinals. Not that good memories for me [laughs].
Lundell (Question 10): I see on Instagram that you cook a lot. What's your favorite thing to cook and have you ever cooked for any of your teammates?
Knight:The thing I cook the most is probably steak. I do that mostly in a cast-iron skillet. I cook a lot of salmon and I'll do some chicken with pasta. I do everything. I keep it fairly simple during the season. But I've learned to cook a pretty good steak, so I do that the most. I've cooked for you before.
Lundell: Yeah, I can say that he's a pretty good cook.
Lundell (Question 11): Why is orange Gatorade the best?
Knight:I don't really know. It's something I've always done. It was the first one I grabbed.
Lundell (Question 12): What's your goal song?
Knight: Mine's still a work in progress. We're working hard and trying to figure that one out. It's coming, so stay tuned.
