The jerseys, as well as other memorabilia, will be available for auction for one week at http://sportsmatter.givesmart.com/ with all proceeds going to Sports Matter.
Additionally, the Penguins and The DICK'S Sporting Goods Foundation will present a $25,000 Sports Matter grant to Pittsburgh I.C.E., Inclusion Creates Equality. Pittsburgh I.C.E. are committed to offering children of all socio-economic backgrounds the opportunity to learn to play ice hockey. Multiple players from Pittsburgh I.C.E. will be featured as the DICK'S Sporting Goods Jr. Starter of the game on Saturday.
Among the other Sports Matter initiatives on Saturday:
Billions of dollars in funding have been cut from youth sports programs, leaving millions of students unable to play. Since 2014, DICK'S Sporting Goods and The DICK'S Sporting Goods Foundation have pledged over $100 million dollars to give kids the chance to play through the Sports Matter initiative. Through these efforts, Sports Matter has raised awareness of the importance of youth sports and has helped more than one million youth athletes across the country.
The Penguins and DICK'S Sporting Goods continue to support their mutual youth hockey initiatives through their partnering programs such as the Willie O'Ree Academy, DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Hockey and the Little Penguins Learn to Play.
Additionally, DICK'S Sporting Goods principal software engineer Ty Garside will be recognized as the "PPG Community Hero" for his contributions to public health and safety. Ty was part of the team that won the Pittsburgh Civic Hackathon in January by helping create a site that streamlines the process of finding a vaccination appointment. He also has volunteered at the many vaccine clinics held at the DICK'S corporate office.
