BRINGING TWO HOME - The Rangers grabbed a 2-0 series lead with both wins coming on the road. It marks the seventh time in team history that the Blueshirts have taken a 2-0 series lead with both wins coming away from home. The others: 2014 CF, 2009 CQF, 2008 CQF, 2007 CQF, 1973 QF, 1972 SF.
PILING ON - New York opened the playoffs with two wins of four-plus goals for the first time since the 1994 playoffs. When scoring four or more goals, New York are a combined 35-0-0 (33-0-0 in regular season, 2-0 in playoffs). In the regular season, the Blueshirts were only team in the NHL to have a perfect such record.
POWER PLAY GOALS - The Blueshirts scored two more power play goals, marking the first time since the 1995 postseason that they have started a playoff year with multiple PPGs in each of the first two games.

  • Chris Kreiderscored twice on the power play to make him the first player in NHL history with four power-play goals through his first two games in a playoff year. In the entire 2022 playoffs, only eight players had four or more PPGs. Kreider matched that number in five periods of play.
    - Adam Fox notched two assists to give him six through two games, tying John Carlson (w/ WSH in 2018) and Gary Suter (w/ CGY in 1988) for the most through the first two playoff games by a defenseman in NHL history. Fox is the sixth defenseman in NHL history with six points through his first two games in a playoff year, joining Gary Suter in 1988, John Carlson in 2018, Al MacInnis in 1999, Bobby Orr in 1971 and Pierre Pilote in 1964.
    - Patrick Kane led the Rangers with three points (1G-2A), marking his ninth career three- point playoff game and tying Chris Chelios for the fourth most in NHL history among U.S.- born players, trailing only Kevin Stevens (13), Craig Janney (11) and Joe Pavelski (10). Kane scored the 53rd playoff goal of his NHL career and tied Jeremy Roenick for fourth place on the League's all-time list among U.S.-born players. His 53 goals since 2009 are tied for the fourth most in the NHL in that span.
    - Vladimir Tarasenko scored his second goal in as many games. His 43 playoff goals since 2013 are the fourth most in the NHL.
