New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Adam McQuaid from the Boston Bruins in exchange for Steven Kampfer, a fourth-round pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, and a conditional seventh-round draft pick.
McQuaid, 31, has skated in 462 career NHL games over parts of nine seasons (2009-10 - 2017-18), all with Boston, registering 13 goals and 53 assists for 66 points, along with a plus-60 rating and 652 penalty minutes. He established career-highs in goals (three), assists (12), points (15), and plus/minus rating (plus-30) in 2010-11 while helping Boston win the Stanley Cup. McQuaid has registered at least 100 hits in five of his nine NHL seasons, and he has also recorded at least 100 blocked shots in four of his nine seasons in the league. In 2016-17, he led the Bruins in blocked shots (144) and ranked second on the team in hits (157), establishing career-highs in both categories, and he was one of only eight NHL players who recorded at least 140 hits and 140 blocked shots during the season. McQuaid has skated in 68 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, and he helped the Bruins advance to the Stanley Cup Final twice (2010-11 and 2012-13).
