The evening gets underway with a special pregame on-ice ceremony to honor the 20th anniversary of the Red Wings historic championship run and the organization's first Stanley Cup® in 42 years. Hosted by FOX Sports Detroit broadcasters Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond, the pre-game ceremony will reunite and recognize the players, coaches and staff from the 1997 Championship Team. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the pregame ceremony, which is set to begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. The ceremony will also air live on FOX Sports Detroit.
Several lucky fans in attendance at The Joe for the 1997 Stanley Cup® Championship Celebration Night will be selected to take part in a post-game ceremony to receive a jersey "off the back" and autographed by a member of the 1997 Championship Team. After receiving the jersey, fans selected will also have an opportunity to take a photo with the Stanley Cup®.
The first 5,000 fans in attendance at The Joe on Tuesday, Dec. 27 will receive Locker Room Hats styled similar to the widely-popular Stanley Cup® Championship black and suede hats worn by the Red Wings after winning the 1997 Stanley Cup® Championship. Additionally, video tributes and interviews will run throughout the game to commemorate the team's championship run.
Two of the trophies won by the 1997 Championship Team will also be on display on the Joe Louis Arena concourse outside Section 112. Trophies on display include the Conn Smythe Trophy, awarded to goaltender Mike Vernon for being named the Most Valuable Player in the Stanley Cup® Playoffs and the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl issued to the Red Wings as Western Conference Playoff Champions.
