By the Numbers Prospects: Ryan O'Reilly

By the Numbers will highlight the on-ice accomplishments in the 2019-20 season for the Detroit Red Wings' prospects. Twice a week during the offseason, By the Numbers will profile a different player in the system, focusing on his statistical highs. This week we focus on forward Ryan O'Reilly.

When Ryan O'Reilly suits up for the Arizona State Sun Devils this coming winter, he will be part of the country's second-ranked recruiting class, according to Neutral Zone.

The Red Wings selected O'Reilly in the fourth round, 98th overall, in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
O'Reilly joins goaltender Cole Brady, forward Matthew Kopperud, forward Sean Dhooghe, defenseman Carson Kosobud and two forwards from Northville, Mich., Benji Eckerle and Michael Mancinelli, as members of the 2020 signing class.
O'Reilly was originally going to go to the University of Denver but opted for Arizona State instead.

This past season, O'Reilly served as an alternate captain for the USHL's Green Bay Gamblers.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound forward recorded 48 goals and 45 assists in three seasons in the USHL.
If O'Reilly reaches the NHL someday, he won't be the first Ryan O'Reilly to do so as that honor belongs to the St. Louis Blues star but he would be just the 12th Texas-born player in the top hockey league.
O'Reilly is a native of Southlake, Tex.

43 - O'Reilly played 43 games for the Gamblers this past season. Last season he played 41 games for the Fargo Force and 16 games for the Gamblers.
17 - In those 43 games, O'Reilly scored 17 goals, which is more than the 14 combined he had the previous season. He had 11 with the Force and three with the Gamblers. O'Reilly was second on the team in goals to Jesse Tucker, who had 18 in 48 games.

15 - O'Reilly also had 15 assists during the 2019-20 season. In the previous year, he had nine helpers with the Force and eight with the Gamblers. Mason Lohrei led the Gamblers with 29 assists in 48 games.
32 - With 32 points, O'Reilly was tied for fourth on the Gamblers with Jake Schmaltz. Tucker led with 43.
48 - With 48 penalty minutes, O'Reilly set a career high. During the previous season, he had a total of 12, eight with the Force and four with the Gamblers. However, O'Reilly only ranked seventh on the team in that category as Tucker had 88 penalty minutes to lead the team.
19 - In a 7-2 loss to the Dubuque Fighting Saints, O'Reilly amassed 19 of those 48 penalty minutes. In the first period, he had a two-minute hooking minor and in the second period, O'Reilly was called for a roughing minor. But in the third, O'Reilly received a five-minute fighting major and a 10-minute fighting misconduct.
15 - In a 5-1 victory over the Omaha Lancers on Feb. 29, O'Reilly had another double-digit penalty-minute game with 15. In the first period, he was given a five-minute fighting major and a 10-minute misconduct.
3- O'Reilly had three two-goal games during the season, in a 5-1 victory over the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Nov. 8, in a 5-0 victory over the Madison Capitols on Dec. 7 and in the 5-1 victory over the Lancers on Feb. 29.
7 - O'Reilly had a season-high seven shots in a 7-1 loss to the Chicago Steel on Jan. 2. He also had five games with six shots apiece.

When Ryan's playing his game, he's putting the puck in the net and he's using his size to get in on the forecheck and turn pucks over and be a good, physical presence, get to the hard areas, get to the front of the net.
