DETROIT-The Detroit Red Wings announced today that Henrik Zetterberg will perform a ceremonial puck drop prior to the Red Wings Home Opener, presented by Coca-Cola and Meijer, on Thursday, Oct. 4 against the Columbus Blue Jackets (7:30 p.m., Fox Sports Detroit/97.1 The Ticket).

Zetterberg played 1,082 games for the Red Wings over 15 seasons from 2002-18 and is one of the most accomplished players in franchise history. His career totals of 337 goals, 623 assists and 960 points each rank fifth in Red Wings history, and his games played place sixth. Most notably, Zetterberg won the Conn Smythe Trophy as most-valuable player of the 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs and scored the game-winning goal in the Red Wings' Game 6 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins to help the Red Wings to their 11th Stanley Cup championship. He also succeeded Nicklas Lidstrom as the team's captain to begin the 2012-13 season.
Originally a seventh-round pick (210th overall) of the Red Wings in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Zetterberg debuted in the NHL in 2002-03 and was a member of the NHL's All-Rookie Team. He would go on to finish first or second in team scoring in 12-of-13 seasons from 2005-18. He was named an NHL Second-Team All-Star in 2008 and also captured the 2013 NHL Foundation Player Award and 2015 King Clancy Trophy for his off-ice contributions. Zetterberg's resume is also decorated with accomplishments on the international circuit, as he is one of just 28 players in the "Triple Gold Club," for players who have won a World Championship gold medal (2006), Olympic gold medal (2006) and Stanley Cup (2008).
A limited number of tickets are available for the Home Opener at the Little Caesars Arena XFINITY Box Office, on The District Detroit App, online at www.DetroitRedWings.com or by calling the Red Wings Ticket Sales and Service Office at 313-471-7575.
