DET-NYI 10:22

ELMONT, N.Y. -- The Detroit Red Wings will look to pick up their second straight road win when they go against the New York Islanders at UBS Arena on Tuesday night.

Puck drop between the Red Wings (2-3-0; 4 points) and Islanders (2-1-2; 6 points) is set for 7:45 p.m., with TV broadcast coverage on FanDuel Sports Network Detroit, which officially rebranded from Bally Sports on Monday. Ken Kal and Paul Woods will have the call on the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit).

The Red Wings wrap up their first multi-game road trek of the season looking to build on a 5-2 victory over the Nashville Predators on Saturday. Detroit pulled away behind three unanswered third-period goals and a 37-save effort from netminder Alex Lyon, securing a sweep of the season series against Nashville.

“[The Predators] had a little bit more momentum than us, but we took it back,” Simon Edvinsson said about Saturday’s road tilt. “I think that’s why we won the game. We had good goaltending from Lyon, put our bodies on the line and won the game.”

Detroit continues to find its game as it navigates a formidable season-opening schedule, and Edvinsson said if the Red Wings are going to be successful against these tough opponents, they’re going to have to earn it.

“We just need to get something extra in every game,” Edvinsson said. “That’s what we saw against Nashville. We’ve got to probably keep going with that.”

The Islanders outlasted the Montreal Canadiens in a nine-round shootout, 4-3, on Saturday. Noah Dobson, who recorded a pair of assists against the Canadiens, leads New York with four points (all assists) this season. Six players (Kyle Palmieri, Brock Nelson, Anthony Duclair, Bo Horvat, Mathew Barzal, Maxim Tsyplakov and Adam Pelech) each have three points on the campaign.

“They play hard,” Vladimir Tarasenko said about the Islanders. “There’s not much space out there. We have to be ready to match the compete level. They have a lot of skill guys as well, so we have to play good defense to win the game.”

Edvinsson agreed, emphasizing the Red Wings need to play efficiently and effectively on both ends of the ice to head home on a high note after Tuesday’s game.

“We want to keep the puck in the offensive zone,” the 21-year-old defenseman said. “To get there, we need to have good outlet passes, not give up turnovers and keep tight in front of our own net. I think that’s going to be huge for [Tuesday].”
