Red Wings blanked by Capitals, 2-0

DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings were held off the scoresheet in a 2-0 loss to the Washington Capitals on Friday night at Little Caesars Arena.

Detroit finished with 19 shots against Washington, and was shut out for the first time this preseason.
Ville Husso started in goal and stopped all 13 shots he faced, while Victor Brattstrom made 16 saves on 17 shots in relief for the Red Wings, who dropped to 1-2-0 in exhibition play.
NEXT UP:Detroit will head back on the road to face the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night. Puck drop from the United Center is set for 8:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. CT.

After a scoreless first period, the Capitals broke the deadlock when John Carlson, assisted by Lucas Johansem fired a wrister past Brattstrom.
Washington 2, Detroit 0 (18:54, 3rd period)
With less than two minutes remaining, Lars Eller capped the scoring and put the game away with an empty-netter.
