The New Westminster, British Columbia, native originally turned pro in the Calgary Flames' organization and appeared in one NHL game for Calgary during the 2015-16 season, picking up an assist in his NHL debut. Elson spent four seasons with the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League prior to his professional career, totaling 151 points (72-79-151), 337 penalty minutes and a plus 46 rating in 253 games from 2009-13).
