DETROIT -- It was a milestone night for Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg and it came in an important victory.
The Wings defeated the Carolina Hurricanes, 3-1, Saturday night at Little Caesars Arena.

The Hurricanes are one of the teams the Wings will have to leapfrog to get into playoff position.
The Wings improved to 25-26-10 overall and 13-13-8 at home while the Hurricanes fell to 27-25-10 overall and 12-14-4 on the road.
Danny DeKeyser, Zetterberg and Trevor Daley scored for Detroit while Noah Hanifin scored for Carolina.
1. Henrik Zetterberg: A little more than a minute after the Hurricanes had scored to tie the game at 1, the Wings got a power play and quickly recaptured the lead. Gustav Nyquist passed the puck to Zetterberg in the low slot and Zetterberg deflected it past Carolina goaltender Scott Darling at 13:22 of the second. The goal was even more significant as it marked Zetterberg's 335th career goal, tying him for fifth in team history with Ted Lindsay. It also was Zetterberg's 100th career power-play goal. Niklas Kronwall got the second assist for an all-Swedish score. Zetterberg now has to catch Sergei Fedorov, who is in fourth place with 400 goals. The goal ended up as the game-winner, which meant Zetterberg hit another milestone, passing Brendan Shanahan for fifth place in Wings history with 64 career game-winning goals. Zetterberg played a team-high 24:28 and had a team-high four shots.

Quotable: "Obviously it's a number that I've been looking at for a while and it's special to have with him. I think he's been here for all of my career and before that, he meant a lot for a lot of players, not just for this team but what he did with the PA and started all that. We wouldn't be in this spot where we are now if it wasn't for him." -- Zetterberg
Quotable II: "Unreal. It's been a pleasure to play with a guy like that. He's a classy guy away from the game and obviously you guys get to see what he does during the games. Obviously special for him to be able to be a part of it. Pretty cool. He also played 25 minutes, too. He's pretty amazing. Good for him, he's a special person so I expect stuff like that coming out of him." -- Daley
Quotable III: "It was cool. He keeps breaking records and setting milestones here as we go. It's pretty awesome to watch. He's just one of those guys who'll do whatever it takes to play. He surrounds himself with the right people and the hours and the work that he puts in is pretty remarkable and it's been pretty awesome to watch from a close range what he's been through and how he's battled through things." -- Kronwall
Quotable IV: "I think it's great. He's going to go down as a great Red Wing for sure, there's no question about it. His competitive fire is unreal. He played probably too many minutes tonight but part of that is for the last month he's been our best player on a nightly basis. Doesn't really practice much and just goes out there. I didn't think early he was skating great but as the game went along it looked like he loosened up and was skating really good. And he's so hyper-competitive that he just refuses to lose battles. Combine that with a hockey sense and skill set and you get certainly one of the great Red Wings." -- Wings coach Jeff Blashill
2. Dylan Larkin: With his 36th assist of the season on DeKeyser's first-period goal to stake the Wings to 1-0 lead, center Dylan Larkin matched his career high in points with 45 in only 61 games played. As a rookie in 2015-16, Larkin amassed 45 points in 80 games with 23 goals, 22 assists and was plus-11. Last season he experienced a disappointing campaign by scoring just 32 points in 80 games with 17 goals, 15 assists and was a shocking minus-28. He was moved to center late last year and over the summer he vowed to become a harder player to play against by becoming a better player between the dots. He also was going to do everything possible to remain at center the entire year, his natural position. Larkin's determination has paid off this year as he leads the Wings in scoring with 45 points, including 9 goals, and is minus-7. For his career, Larkin has played in 221 games and has scored 49 goals, 73 assists and is minus-24.
Quotable: "I think at the end of last year Larks really made a concerted effort when we moved him back to the center position to make sure that he was a complete player. Then I think over the course of the summer, he made a concerted effort to come back into this year and be a little more of a give-and-go type player and I think he's done a good job of that. I think that results in more points. Dylan's will will never ever be questioned. He's got inner drive and will of the great, great athletes. So, he needs to keep improving like everybody else but his will will never be questioned." -- Blashill
Quotable II: "Yeah, I guess it's pretty cool. On a personal note, it's good to come and get a win. I still think we're in it so I hope we're not far from done. We've got 20 games left, it feels good but I want more for myself and our team." - Larkin
3. Danny DeKeyser/Trevor Daley: At 15:41 of the first period, DeKeyser drove into the slot and shot the puck at Darling. The puck glanced off Darling's glove and into the net for DeKeyser's fifth goal of the season. Larkin and Xavier Ouellet assisted on the goal. It took DeKeyser just 44 games to pass his total of four goals from last season, done in 82 games. DeKeyser's career high is eight goals in 78 games in the 2015-16 season. DeKeyser also had quite the night defensively, blocking a team-high seven shots, one short of his season best. While Zetterberg's milestone was acknowledged, Daley's smaller milestone went relatively unnoticed. Daley, 34, played in his 950th career game and made it a memorable one by scoring an insurance goal at 16:04 of the second period when Andreas Athanasiou passed it to him in the left circle and Daley beat Darling glove-side when the two teams were playing 4-on-4. It was Daley's sixth goal of the season in 56 games played. Daley had five goals in 56 games last season.
Quotable: "I didn't know that but anytime you get a chance to chip in on the offensive side, it's always a bonus, especially on a night we get two points. It's gone pretty quick. It's amazing how fast it goes. Just trying to enjoy every one of them. -- Daley
Quotable II: "Two pretty good snipes. Dales was really a good one. We need our defensemen to chip in. That's help our overall team offense a bit. That's something we talked about starting around Christmas time. Put more emphasis on it and we need to do more there." -- Kronwall
Quotable III: "Coming out of the All-Star break it was just a real point of emphasis, not to say we didn't talk about it early, but we looked at our scoring and from a defensive standpoint, our points were one of the lowest totals in the league and we were looking for ways to produce more offense and that screams D, let's make sure they're more involved and I think they've really grabbed onto it and we've done a way better job on the rush of getting them involved and as a result we're able to score some goals, so it's big." -- Blashill
