The Capitals host the Los Angeles Kings today at 5 p.m. at Capital One Arena for the first of two meetings between the teams this season. Washington will visit Los Angeles on March 13. The Capitals swept the season series with Los Angeles in 2023-24, winning a pair of one goal games. Washington is 8-2-0 in their last 10 games against the Kings dating back to the 2018-19 season.

Defenseman Matt Roy is set to face his former team for the first time since joining the Capitals in the summer. Roy, who was drafted by Los Angeles in the seventh round (194th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft, played 369 games with the Kings from 2019 to 2024. Roy was the 67th defenseman taken in the 2015 NHL Draft and ranks eighth among defensemen from his draft class in points (114), tied for eighth in assists (89) and ninth in goals (25) and games played (391).

In 22 games this season, Roy has recorded eight points (1g, 7a) and a +6 plus-minus rating. Roy ranks second among Capitals defensemen in hits (52) despite missing 10 games due to injury. In addition, Roy ranks tied for third among Washington blueliners in shorthanded ice time per game (1:36) and fourth in ice time per game (19:22).
