Story of the Day

The Capitals dropped a 3-2 (OT) decision to the Winnipeg Jets Tuesday at Canada Life Centre, snapping their four-game winning streak. Washington has earned at least one point in five straight games (4-0-1) and in 10 of its last 11 contests (9-1-1). The Capitals, who visit the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, are 18-4-1 in games following a loss this season.

Trevor van Riemsdyk recorded his 19th assist of the season Tuesday, adding to his already career high and bringing his season point total to 20. van Riemsdyk has recorded four points (1g, 3a) in his last five games and became the sixth Capitals defenseman to reach the 20-point mark this season. It marks the first time in franchise history Washington has had six defensemen with 20 or more points in the same season (h/t Mike Vogel). The Capitals are the fourth team since 2000 with six defensemen with 20-plus points, joining the 2022-23 Islanders, 2021-22 Wild and 2006-07 Senators (h/t MNMT).

Capitals defensemen have combined for 184 points (34g, 150a) this season, which is the second-highest total in the NHL (Colorado: 45g-141a–186p). Last season, Washington ranked 30th in the NHL in scoring by defensemen (20g-115a–135p).
