"I want to make it clear that there was absolutely zero intent to injure," Borowiecki continued. "I was not intentionally targeting the head in any way. It was a reactionary play with a bouncing puck in front of the net and their defenceman was coming in hot so I just tried to get my arm up to shield the front of the net and block him out. Unfortunately, I caught him high."
Borowiecki mentioned that while he hasn't reached out to Boston defenceman Urho Vaakanainen yet, he did apologize to him and Bruins captain Zdeno Chara during a stoppage in play on Tuesday. Borowiecki is no stranger to the effects that a concussion can have on a player as he missed nearly two months last season after a hit to the head against the Rangers.
"I've been through some really trying, dark times with head injuries and that's one thing that I expressed to George yesterday," said Borowiecki. "I would never wish that upon anyone, especially a young defenceman trying to come into this league. That's not what I'm about and I would never want him to experience what I've had to go through so I feel terrible about it."
As a result of the suspension and an injury to Ben Harpur, Christian Wolanin has been recalled from Belleville and will join the Sens in Denver as the team starts a 3-game road trip.
