The National Hockey League announced today that Claude Giroux been named the Second Star of the week. In four wins Giroux scored three goals and added six assists for nine points while finishing a +7.
This is the second time this season Giroux has been named one of the NHL Stars of the Week, having been named the first star just a few weeks ago.
Following a win against Montreal, the Senators kicked off the week with a crucial back-to-back at home against Detroit. Giroux began that back-to-back with a four-point outing scoring a goal, which proved to be the game-winning goal, while adding three assists to boot. He followed that up with a power play goal and an assist on Brady Tkachuk's nail in the coffin goal with 5:17 to play.
When the team took to New York to face the Rangers in a game to show how legitimate this group can be, Giroux stepped up again. With the Rangers up 3-2 heading into the third period, Giroux provided the lone assist on Derick Brassard's first goal of the night before potting one of his own to take the lead less than two minutes later. He followed that up with an assist on Tim Stützle's insurance goal, making him a part of all three of the Senators third period goals in the comeback.
Giroux is on pace for 83 points, his most in a season since the 2018-19 campaign in which he scored 85 points. He also is sitting just 14 points from the 1000 career point mark!
