Free Agency Day One

Recapping Day One of the Senators Free Agency.

Pierre Dorion wasted no time getting the free agency period under way today. Below are all the transactions made by the team today:

Erik Brannstrom, Defence

The fifth year pro signed a one-year, $2 million AAV contract to stay with the Senators where he has played up and down the top six defensive pairings over the last couple seasons.

Jacob Bernard-Docker, Defence

Heading into just his fourth professional season, Bernard-Docker signed his first contract since his entry-level contract in 2020. A 2018 first round draft pick of the Senators who has grown his game with each subsequent trip to the NHL ranks will be a good addition to the defensive core.

Joonas Korpisalo, Goaltender

The big signing of the day took just one hour into free agency when the Senators signed goaltender, Joonas Korpisalo to a five-year, $4 million AAV contract. With eight professional seasons and playoff experience under his belt, Korpisalo is primed to be the goaltender of the future for the Senators, playing his prime years in the Nation's capital.

Rourke Chartier, Centre

The sixth year pro centreman signed a one-year, two way contract to remain within the Senators organization where he has spent each of the last two seasons. A fixture in Belleville, Chartier has put up 53 points in 73 career games with the Belleville Senators, while also playing in six games with Ottawa this year. Look for him to continue playing his steady role for the organization next year as a prime candidate to be recalled on a moments notice.

The contract will be worth $775,000 for NHL duty, and $300,000 for AHL duty.

Josh Currie, Right wing

Josh Currie signed a one-year, two-way contract to join the Senators organization. He has spent 10 seasons as a pro between the ECHL, AHL, NHL and Europe, with 22 NHL games under his belt for the Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins.

The contract will be worth $775,000 for NHL duty, and $275,000 for AHL duty.

Boko Imama, Left wing

Boko Imama also signed a one-year, two-way contract. He is a six year pro who brings a level of toughness to the Senators organization. In his career he has tallied nine NHL games, all over the last two years, with the Arizona Coyotes.

The terms of the contract are that it will be worth $775,000 for NHL duty and $325,000 for AHL duty. One-year

Matthew Highmore, Centre

Another one-year, two-way contract, Matthew Highmore joins the Senators organization following playing last season with the St. Louis Blues organization.

Perhaps the most NHL tenured of the two-way contracts signed today, Highmore has played in 139 NHL games across six seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks and St. Louis Blues. Look for him to be a ready recall during the season.

His contract will be worth $775K for NHL duty and $400K for AHL duty.

Garrett Pilon, Centre

Lastly, the Senators signed Garrett Pilon to a one-year, two-way contract. Pilon has spent the entirety of his professional career with the Washington organization, playing in 259 gmaes for the Hershey Bears and three games with the Capitals.

The terms of Pilon's contract are that it will be worth $775K for NHL duty and $200K for AHL duty.
