OTTAWA - The
Ottawa Senators
announced today that the team has acquired forward Derek Stepan from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for a Senators' (previously acquired from Columbus) second-round selection in the 2021 NHL Draft.

A native of Hastings, Minn., Stepan registered 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists) and 16 penalty minutes over 70 games in his third season with the Coyotes in 2019-20. He ranked third among Arizona skaters with five points (one goal, four assists) while skating in each of the Coyotes' nine post-season contests.
"Derek's acquisition provides us with important stability at centre heading into the season," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. "He plays a 200-foot game and has proven to be a reliable special teams' player throughout his career. His addition to our lineup will also represent a valuable leadership presence within our group."
Stepan, 30, was selected by the New York Rangers with the team's second-round draft pick (51st overall) in the 2008 NHL Draft. Over 739 career NHL games with the Rangers and Arizona, he has posted 479 points (167 goals, 312 assists) and 186 penalty minutes. He has also registered 54 points (20 goals, 34 assists) and 30 penalty minutes over 106 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
