OTTAWA - By way of a unique announcement that was made by
Jeopardy!
host and University of Ottawa alumnus Alex Trebek, the
Ottawa Senators
selected Adler Mannheim forward Tim Stützle with the team's first pick and with the third overall selection in the 2020 NHL Draft earlier this evening.

A native of Viersen, Germany, Stützle, 18, appeared in 41 of Mannheim's 52 regular-season games in 2019-20, in what was his first season playing in Germany's top professional league, and registered 34 points (seven goals, 27 assists) to rank seventh among Eagles in scoring despite being the youngest full-time player in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL - the highest league in Germany).
"We are thrilled to welcome Tim to the Senators, to Ottawa and to the National Hockey League," said Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk. "Tim's acquisition represents yet another core piece in our quest to build momentum towards icing a consistent, elite-level team."
Rated first among European prospects ahead of the 2020 NHL Draft, Stützle also spent a portion of last season skating for Germany's U-20 World Junior Championship team in the Czech Republic where he tied for fourth among German skaters with five points (five assists) over five of Germany's seven tournament contests.
