OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today that the team has signed defenceman Erik Brannstrom to a one-year contract. The contract has a value of $900,000 for the 2022-23 National Hockey League season.

Brannstrom, 23, established new career highs in assists (14), points (14) penalty minutes (30) and games (53) with the Senators in 2021-22. He also skated in nine contests with the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Belleville Senators, over which he recorded three points (one goal, two assists) and 10 penalty minutes.

"Erik is among our group of young players who we're looking upon to take another step forward next season," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. "He's competitive, has an ability to efficiently move the puck and showed well when asked to take on an increased role last season. We're hopeful that experience pays dividends for him in the year ahead."
A native of Eksjo, Sweden, Brannstrom will enter the 2022-23 season having skated in 116 contests for the Senators and for his NHL career over which he has recorded 31 points (two goals, 29 assists) and 71 penalty minutes.
Internationally, Brannstrom helped Sweden to a silver medal at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo, N.Y., by ranking second among team defenceman with four points (one goal, three assists) while skating in each of the team's seven tournament games.
