Mete, 23, was claimed off waivers by the Senators from the Montreal Canadiens on April 12 and combined to register five points (one goal, four assists), eight penalty minutes and a plus-eight plus/minus rating over 28 NHL games last season split between the Canadiens and Senators.
"Victor was a really solid addition to our defence corps over the last month of the season last year," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. "He's mobile, poised and defensively aware. We're looking forward to seeing his progression in our lineup in 2021-22."
A native of Woodbridge, Ont., Mete was originally selected in the fourth round (100th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft by Montreal. In 199 career NHL games with the Canadiens and Senators, he has recorded 36 points (five goals, 31 assists) and 38 penalty minutes.
Internationally, Mete represented his country when he helped Team Canada earn a gold medal at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo, N.Y., by way of earning three points (three assists) over six games while ranking second among Canadian skaters in plus/minus (+11).
