"After undergoing tests following the team's playoff series against Pittsburgh it was determined that Derick suffered a torn labrum in his right shoulder that will require surgery to repair. The procedure will take place in the near future, with the expected recovery time for this type of injury being four to five months. We are hopeful that Derick will be ready for the start of the 2017-18 regular season."
Brassard, 29, scored 14 goals and added 25 assists for 39 points in 81 regular-season games during his first year with Ottawa. He recorded four goals and seven assists for 11 points in 19 playoff games.
