The Ottawa Senators have made their first move on trade deadline day claiming sixth-year forward Boris Katchouk off waivers after he was waived by the Blackhawks yesterday.
In 38 games this season, Katchouk has amassed five goals and four assists for nine total points. After spending the first three seasons of his pro career in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch, Katchouk made his NHL debut on Oct. 16 2021 against the Washington Capitals while playing for the Tampa Bay Lightning. In his NHL tenure he has totalled 13 goals and 19 assists for 32 points in 155 games played.
Katchouk boasted a solid junior career while playing for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds where he scored 91 goals and 202 total points in 199 games across four seasons, highlighted by his 42-goal, 85-point season in 2017-18. His strong junior play resulted in him being drafted in the second round, 44th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2016 NHL Draft.
Katchouk will re-join former teammate Mathieu Joseph who he played with for parts of the 2019-20 season in Syracuse and parts of the 2021-22 season in Tampa Bay. Katchouk is in the final year of his deal and carries a cap hit of $758,333.
