OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today that the team has named two assistant general managers, promoting chief amateur scout Trent Mann and adding Ryan Bowness who previously served as the director of professional scouting with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The additions are effective July 1, 2022.

A native of Sackville, N.B., Mann, 48, has served as the team's lead amateur scout since being promoted in October of 2016. He joined the team as a part-time amateur scout in 2010 and ascended to a full-time role with the club in 2014., Mann provides direction to the entire amateur scouting staff both in North America and internationally in player evaluation and preparation for the annual National Hockey League Draft. He will continue to serve in the same scouting role while adding greater player developmental responsibilities to his portfolio.
Born in Halifax, Bowness, 38, has spent the past six seasons with the Penguins, including the last three campaigns as the team's director of professional scouting. He was part of Pittsburgh's 2017 Stanley Cup winning professional scouting staff. Prior to joining the Penguins, he spent seven seasons as a member of the Winnipeg Jets/Atlanta Thrashers hockey operations department, serving in a wide variety of capacities including professional scout, manager of hockey operations and manager of player development. A graduate of Saint Mary's University, Bowness played four seasons of collegiate hockey with the Huskies after playing major junior with the Ontario Hockey League's Brampton Battalion and Oshawa Generals. The son of the first head coach in Senators franchise history (Rick Bowness), Ryan will oversee contractual-related items and will serve as the general manager of the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Belleville Senators.
"Trent's promotion and Ryan's hiring represent two significant additions of our front office staff," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. "On top of the success they have achieved in NHL, both are excellent hockey minds, hard workers and quality leaders. Trent has shown to be one of the top evaluators of amateur talent in the industry and has progressed to become an invaluable resource to the entire organization. Ryan is a critical thinker whose experience will allow him to contribute to a wide variety of areas. His success in professional scouting along with his ability to communicate in detail makes him an ideal complement to our hockey group."
Bowness will join Dorion, Mann and the Senators hockey staff in Montreal ahead of the start of this year's NHL Draft which begins on Thursday, July 7.
