OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today that the team has signed defenceman Tomas Hamara to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Hamara, 18, split the majority of his 2021-22 season between Tappara U20 (SM-sarja) and Tappara (Liiga) ranking second among Tappara U20 defenders in scoring (six goals, 19 assists) while also making his Liiga debut where he was the youngest defender on the club and joined Calgary Flames 2022 second-round selection Topi Ronni as the lone 18-year-old skaters to appear for the team.
"Tomas is mobile, puck-moving defenceman who demonstrated those abilities throughout the course of our recently completed development camp," said Ottawa Senators assistant general manager Trent Mann. "We're excited about tracking his progression next season as he works toward becoming a future Ottawa Senator."
A native of Prague, Hamara represented his home country at the 2021 and 2022 IIHF U18 World Championship's where he was recognized with a spot on the tournament All-Star Team at the latter event after finishing second in tournament scoring among defencemen (eight assists). He was the Senators' second third-round pick (87th overall) in the 2022 NHL Draft and is the first of this year's draftees to sign with Ottawa.
