Gagne, 19, spent the majority of the 2015-16 season with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Shawinigan Cataractes following a mid-December trade from the Victoriaville Tigres, with whom he was limited to only eight games and over which he registered eight points (five goals, three assists). He recorded 28 points (12 goals, 16 assists) over 34 games with Shawinigan before ranking third among Cataractes with 11 playoff goals and tied for fourth with 22 post-season points while appearing in each of the team's 21 post-season contests in helping the team reach the QMJHL's President's Cup Final.
A native of Laval, Que., Gagne has recorded 132 points (68 goals, 64 assists) and 83 penalty minutes over the first 176 games of his major junior career. He was the Senators first second-round selection (36th overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft and is in the midst of his first Senators' training camp after missing last fall's due to injury.
