Stone was tied for the Senators team lead in scoring last season after scoring 20 goals and earning a career-high 42 assists for 62 points in only 58 games. He has scored 20 or more goals in each of his four full NHL seasons since joining the Senators full-time in 2014-15.
"We're happy to have Mark under contract," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. "Mark is a great leader in every sense; a character person, passionate competitor and a talented two-way player. Signing him is the first step in a process that allows us to continue to negotiate a long-term deal in the new year. We look forward to having a long and successful relationship with Mark."
In his first season serving as an alternate captain with Ottawa, Stone led the team in plus/minus (+9) while his 20:40 of time-on-ice per game average was highest among Senators forwards. Stone also led the Senators with 59 takeaways despite missing 24 games. His 381 takeaways since the start of the 2014-15 season is the most in the NHL and 84 more than the next closest player.
A Winnipeg native, and drafted by the Senators in the sixth-round (178th overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft, Stone has recorded 249 points (95 goals, 154 assists) and 93 penalty minutes over the first 307 career contests of his NHL career.
