Daoust, 20, is in the midst of his third major junior hockey season and his first with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Saint John Sea Dogs and ranks eighth in team scoring (despite playing 30 fewer games than the team's leaders) with 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists) over 17 regular-season games. He has also played 15 games with the team's AHL affiliate, the Belleville Senators, and registered five points (five assists) earlier this season.
"We've been very pleased with Philippe's progress," said Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. "He's a highly skilled forward who displays good offensive instincts and creativity. With Saint John serving as Memorial Cup host this spring, we expect him to play an important role throughout the Sea Dogs' post-season."
A native of Barrie, Ont., Daoust has established a new major junior career high in goals this season and is eight points shy of setting a new career high in points. He enters weekend play having registered 79 points (24 goals, 55 assists) and 28 penalty minutes over 94 QMJHL regular-season games with Saint John and the Moncton Wildcats.
Selected by the Senators with the team's first sixth-round pick (158th overall), Daoust is the seventh member of the team's 2020 draft class to be signed by Ottawa.
