His depth at the forward position will also provide us with more opportunity to work with our younger players and bring them in at the right point in their development."
Ennis, aged 29, scored 12 goals and added six assists for 18 points in 51 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season. A three-time 20-goal scorer in the NHL, Ennis was the Buffalo Sabres' first-round selection (26th overall) in the 2008 NHL Draft.
An Edmonton native, Ennis has scored 117 goals and added 159 assists for 276 points over 543 career NHL games with Buffalo, the Minnesota Wild and Toronto. He has also recorded 10 points (three goals, seven assists) in 19 career playoff games.
Ennis has represented Canada internationally on two occasions, winning gold medals at the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championships held at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa and the 2015 IIHF World Hockey Championship.
