The only remaining task to handle before the game gets underway tomorrow was for the captains to draft their squads from what is a star-studded roster of former Senators.
"I didn't go by skill at all but purely by health and physical ability," joked long-time Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson. "That was my strategy."
Chris Phillips was also targeting a few of the "younger" players in the draft which included the newest member of the Sens Alumni who announced his retirement from the NHL earlier today.
"I was eyeing Chris Neil, who's freshly retired as of this morning," shared Phillips. "Along with Mike Fisher (who was ultimately drafted to Team Alfredsson), they were two of the younger guys available in the draft and have played the most hockey lately."
While fielding questions from the media this morning after calling it an NHL career, Neil joked that he might take a run at Alfredsson should they end up on opposing squads tomorrow night but #11 doesn't seem phased.
"I've heard that for 22 years from other people," Alfredsson responded with a smile. "I'm still standing so I think I'll be able to handle that."
With Neil being a late addition to the Alumni Classic roster, it has really become a 'who's who' in franchise history with the group combining for over 10,000 games for the Senators. Phillips, who leads the way with 1,179 games with Ottawa, is happy to see the alumni group grow.
"We've had NHL alumni in the town for a little while but now we're seeing more and more guys who played for the Senators involved," said Phillips about the attendees for this weekend. "This is really the big coming out party for the Sens alumni."
