The San Jose Sharks make their next stop on their five game road trip tonight in Canada… again. This time in Ottawa, facing the Senators.
The Sharks are carrying decent momentum coming off a win against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night and grabbing a point in a shootout battle against the Toronto Maple Leafs last night. The Sharks put up a good fight against the Leafs in a high-energy game. In fact, gloves dropped just two seconds into the game between Joe Thornton and Nazem Kadri, which may have resulted in a loss of some beard.
The Leafs jumped ahead of the Sharks late in the first period but defensemen Brenden Dillon was quick to respond with his first goal of the season. This bounce back happened almost identically again in the second period when Chris Tierney responded late in the period to match the Leafs 2-2. A back and forth battle in the third pushed the game into a shootout where the Leafs ultimately got the victory. Martin Jones received third star of the game for his 26 save performance. Brent Burns recorded just over 31 minutes of ice time and had a game-high eight shots.
On the second half of the back-to-back tonight, we can expect to see goaltender Aaron Dell in net for Team Teal. Dell is 6-0 in his last six starts and ranks third in the league in save percentage and goals-against average. We still have yet to see Paul Martin or Barclay Goodrow take the ice this road trip but, Pete DeBoer mentioned last game that Goodrow could be an option against the Senators.
