Oakland Ice Center Hosts Graffiti Camp

Earlier this month, Oakland Ice Center operated by Sharks Ice finished a two-week graffiti camp for girls ages 12 through 17 in collaboration with Girl Mobb.
Nina Wright, better known as "Girl Mobb," created Graffiti Camp for Girls to develop talent and create opportunities for young women to create public art. Wright, who hails from the East Bay, started Graffiti Camp for Girls in 2017 and has continually worked as a mentor to help teach young artistic girls how to spray paint.

Each camper engaged in every aspect of the project from start to finish, including planning, outlining, learning painting techniques, working with graffiti equipment like respirators, and ultimately painting and completing the mural.
Now, Oakland Ice Center boasts a new three-dimensional mural that features the bold text "Teal for Change." Surrounding that message are Oakland Bears and Jr. Sharks youth hockey players (girls, of course!). The mural also has skates, curling stones and other representations of ice sports and S.J. Sharkie.

The mural displays all that Oakland Ice Center has to offer with Girl Mobb's unique and creative spin on the San Jose Sharks.
Girl Mobb's connection to the Sharks didn't just start with this year's camp. She also designed the "Graffiti Shark" jersey that players wore during warmups and became a shirsey giveaway for fans as part of the 2019-20 season's "Artist Collection."
