He set a career high in plus/minus and finished just one goal shy of his career mark, set in 2015-16, despite playing in 20 fewer games than the previous season. He ranked 3rd on his team in goals and T-2nd in game-winning goals (5).
The six-foot, 180-pound native of Beaumont, Alberta was selected by San Jose in the fourth round (111th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft.
Shoemaker, 19, recorded 16 assists and 22 penalty minutes in 68 games with North Bay of the Ontario Hockey League in 2016-17. He finished 4th amongst team defensemen in points, assists and shots on goal (100).
