This is the first opportunity prior to the 2022-23 season to see several high-level prospects in the Sharks system compete against one another. Nick Nollenberger will be calling the game via the Sharks digital platforms, including the Sharks+SAP Center mobile app presented by Western Digital, sjsharks.com, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
The games will also be broadcast live on the Sharks Audio Network. Pre-game coverage will start at approximately 7 p.m. with news, notes and roster updates prior to puck drop. Viewers will be able to hear from various Sharks personalities during the contest, providing their commentary on the scrimmage.
The Sharks prospects will be divided up into four teams and will compete in three separate, eight-minute stop-time games, with the top two teams competing in the championship game to determine the winner. There is no special teams during the game and any penalties will incur an automatic penalty shot. If the game results in a tie at the end of the eight minutes, there will be a three-round shootout to determine the winner. Teams will be awarded standings points for each game, with a regulation win worth three points, two points for a shootout victory, and one point for a shootout loss. If tiebreakers are needed for the championship game, the first criteria will be Total Goals For, followed by Goals For/Goals Against and finally Lowest Total Penalties against.
Many of the organization's top prospects are expected to participate, including William Eklund, Thomas Bordeleau, Brandon Coe, Danil Gushchin, Ozzy Wiesblatt, Ryan Merkley, and 2022 First Round Selection Filip Bystedt.
A significant number of the players in attendance will comprise the roster of the 2022-23 San Jose Barracuda and will be competing to earn a roster spot on the San Jose Sharks.
