This April the Sharks Foundation celebrated Environmental Awareness Month presented by
PG&E
by supporting non-profit organizations dedicated to improving and preserving the planet.
The Foundation kicked off the campaign on April 5 with a Reclaimed & Recycled Items Auction which resulted in a $2,000 donation to Bay Area Wilderness Training to support their Oakland Gear Library, making wilderness gear more accessible to underserved youth. The auction included unique pieces such as an ice cream scooper created from a used hockey stick and a wooden Mystery Puck display case.

On April 8, the Foundation partnered with
PG&E
,
Our City Forest
and

to host a tree planting day at Starbird Park to culminate the season-long Break A Stick, Plant A Tree campaign presented by PG&E. For every Sharks hockey stick broken on the ice during the 21-22 season, PG&E and the Sharks Foundation committed a $100 donation to OTP; each $100 covering the cost of planting 100 trees. The program resulted in a $17,000
Community Assist Grant
to OTP which will allow them to plant 17,000 trees in California!

On April 15, the Foundation hosted a
Save Our Shores
Beach Clean-up in partnership with
Poly
. Volunteers collected 311 pounds of trash over a three-hour period at Seacliff State Beach in Aptos. Each piece of garbage was categorized based on size and material so the data can help to educate local, county, and state officials about the types of litter found on California's beaches. In addition to the clean-up, the Sharks Foundation and Poly presented Save Our Shores with a $7,500
Community Assist Grant
to further support their mission of stewarding clean shores, healthy habitats, and living waters. Watch the recap video

EUANART
Shark Photography Auction which featured incredible, professional photos of great white sharks signed by the artist, Euan Rannachan, as well as various Sharks players. The auction resulted in a $3,500 donation to
Marine Science Institute
in support of their mission to cultivate responsibility for the natural environment through interdisciplinary science education.
Loved Twice
served as the evening's 50/50 Raffle presented by
Cache Creek Casino Resort
beneficiary which generated $10,540 for their recycled baby clothing program. This year alone, Loved Twice will divert more than 150,000 gently used garments from ending up in landfills and clothe more than 2,000 newborns in need during their first year of life.
In total, the Sharks Foundation dedicated $40,540 and impacted 26,700 lives this April during Environmental Awareness Month presented by PG&E.
