Radek Faksa scored two goals, but the Dallas Stars lost 4-2 to the Colorado Avalanche in preseason play Wednesday night in Denver. The Stars are now 1-1-0 in the preseason.
After Colorado's Joe Whitney scored to give Colorado a 1-0 lead in the first period, Faksa scored twice in the second period to put the Stars up 2-1. Faksa, just back from the World Cup of Hockey, scored seven seconds into the period to tie the game and then had a rebound off a Brett Ritchie shot deflect off him and into the net to give the Stars the lead at the 3:30 mark.
But Colorado scored three times over the final 20 minutes to run their preseason record to 2-0-0. Francois Beauchemin tied the game 16 seconds into the period and Ben Smith's tip-in tally with 4:16 remaining proved to be the game-winner. Patrick Wiercioch scored into an empty-net to seal the win for Colorado.
Antti Niemi and Philippe Desrosiers split time in goal. Niemi stopped 12 of 13 shots and Desrosiers stopped four of six shots.
The Stars next preseason game is Friday at St. Louis.
