Hyman eyes his 50th goal & the Oilers look for a third straight win

THIRD PERIOD

0.0: Edmonton made it interesting in the third period with goals from Hyman, Perry and Draisaitl, but the damage was done in the first two periods as the Oilers lose this one 6-3 to the Maple Leafs. They won't have to wait long to return to action tomorrow afternoon against the Ottawa Senators.

12.1: Empty-net Auston Matthews. 6-3.

3:39: DRAISAITL GETS A BOUNCE! GAME ON! Leon makes it a two-goal game with under four minutes left after it takes a piece of a Toronto defender on its way five-hole under Ilya Samsonov. The Leafs' netminder is hurt and will come out of the game in favour of Martin Jones with Edmonton chasing this game late. 5-3.

4:11: Edmonton pulls their goalie early to try and make something happen.

11:28: PERRY AT THE BACK POST! What a terrific feed from Evander Kane to set up the 38-year-old at the back post as the power play waned into its final seconds. Perry converts his 10th goal of the season to make it 5-2.

13:25: Another Oilers power play comes from a trip by Connor Dewar on Mattias Janmark. Edmonton is 1-for-5 tonight after Hyman got us on the board a few minutes ago.

Perry scores on a setup by Kane to cut the deficit to 5-2

15:01: HYMAN HAS GOAL NO. 49! Can he make it to 50 tonight in his hometown? The Oilers winger deflects Connor McDavid's low pass over the left pad of Ilya Samsonov to break the shutout with 15 minutes remaining. 5-1 Toronto.

Hyman converts in front on the PP for his 49th of the season

17:21: Delay of Game to the Maple Leafs' Conor Timmins for sending the puck over the glass.

20:00: The third period is underway. Calvin Pickard is between the pipes now for the Blue & Orange.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: The Maple Leafs are making it a tough night in Toronto for the Oilers. 5-0 they lead after 40 minutes, and they'll be shorthanded to begin the final frame from a two-minute roughing minor and a 10-minute misconduct to Darnell Nurse.

4:11: 5-0 for the Maple Leafs. McCann nets his second of the game on a cross-slot pass from Nylander, who has a goal and assist tonight.

8:58: 4-0 Toronto. The Oilers are not helping themselves, failing to keep the puck in at the blueline and turning it over through Adam Henrique before the Leafs take off on a three-on-one that's flipped over Skinner by Holmberg for his second goal of the game.

11:10: Warren Foegele is cross-checked in the back by Conor Timmins. Edmonton goes to their third power play down by three goals, already 0-for-3 tonight.

11:58: The Leafs go up 3-0. Edmonton is struggling to move the puck right now, and Toronto's pressure leads to a tap-in for Pontus Holmberg after Max Domi drew Skinner out of position.

15:22: Samsonov makes a heck of a glove save on a one-timer from Brett Kulak that was set up on the rush by Ryan McLeod.

20:00: The second period is underway!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: END OF 1 | Toronto 2, Edmonton 0. The Leafs will have 33 seconds of power-play time on the other side of the intermission. The shots in the first period end 10-6 in favour of Toronto.

1:27: Another man advantage coming for the Leafs as Evander Kane gets his stick caught under the right skate blade of Conor Timmins.

1:46: Toronto goes two-up. Nylander puts a sweet redirection on Timothy Liljegren's low shot from the point on the power play. 2-0 Leafs.

3:03: The first call against Edmonton comes after Darnell Nurse took out William Nylander before the puck arrived on the forward's stick. The Oilers are 0-for-2 power play so far and now the Leafs are heading to their first man advantage.

5:13: Tavares tries to get around Bouchard after the blueliner gives up the puck at the blueline, but the referee calls the Leafs captain for holding. The Oilers head to their second power play!

8:29: William Nylander makes one too many moves on a pretty passing play from Toronto in Edmonton's zone. The Leafs winger is sitting on 38 goals this season.

11:32: Skinner makes two good pad saves on Max Domi and Matthew Knies in tight.

12:29: Hyman lets go of a shot in the right circle that trickles through Ilya Samsonov in the crease for Toronto, but defenceman Jake McCabe pushes it back under his netminder.

15:43: Maple Leafs goal. The Oilers leave the front of the net unoccupied and Tavares makes a good reverse pass to McMann, who was alone in front and beat Skinner over the right pad. 1-0 Toronto.

19:14: The first time the Maple Leafs touch the puck, the referee is blowing the play down for a tripping penalty on Matthew Knies against Connor McDavid. It all started with an excellent faceoff win and zone entry by Leon Draisaitl before the captain drew the call.

20:00: SATURDAY NIGHT. HOCKEY NIGHT. We are underway at Scotiabank Arena!

20:00: The first period at Scotiabank Arena will begin at 5:07 p.m. MT.
