Learn, Play, Score

Rooted in a commitment to building confidence and character, promoting positive values and imparting enduring life skills, thousands of youth across Detroit will have the unique opportunity to participate in the Detroit Red Wings Learn, Play, Score platform - an interactive extension of hockey's Declaration of Principles.

This program is funded through a $1 million investment in partnership with the Red Wings, the Detroit Red Wings Foundation and the NHL/NHLPA Industry Growth Fund to grow and expand access to hockey across Detroit.

More than 30,000 youth in Detroit will experience hockey through a distinctive array of events and engagements. The Red Wings are working with several metro Detroit and national organizations to coordinate the exclusive programming, curriculum and operation of the platform.

Traditional Hockey

Detroit Hockey Rink Collaborative

The Detroit Hockey Rink Collaborative brings together the three ice hockey rinks in Detroit to establish a tighter ecosystem of opportunities for youth. Each rink will now offer similar affordable ice hockey pathway programming, such as learn to skate and Little Wings learn to play. As a member of the collaborative, each rink will receive an annual grant to support hockey-related growth (e.g. purchase rental skates, equipment, etc.) and scholarships for pathway programming.

On-Ice Hockey Pathway Scholarships

On-Ice Hockey Pathway Scholarships are a component of the Detroit Hockey Rink Collaborative, offering the ability for children to experience ice skating and ice hockey without financial barriers. Each of the three ice rinks in Detroit will receive a set amount of scholarships for learn to skate and Little Wings learn to play programming.

Little Caesars Arena Community Open Skate Experiences

To incorporate Little Caesars Arena within the Learn, Play, Score platform, (4) four annual complimentary open skate sessions will take place for Detroit residents. The open skate sessions will be made available exclusively to partner organizations within Learn, Play, Score. The sessions will include all necessary components to skate upon request (rental ice skates, ice skating trainers, socks, etc.).
