Rasmus Andersson had the unfortunate task of trying to make sense of it afterward. Or, at the very least, put into words.
"It was a brutal game," the blueliner said following an 8-2 loss to the LA Kings at Crypto.com Arena. "Nothing more to say, really. Nothing was going (well) for us. … Our d-zone was not good enough. We were not good enough with the puck. We didn't get through the neutral zone, we didn't have any forecheck. ... I was terrible tonight. I've got to be better. Everyone's got to step up (tonight)."
Tyler Toffoli and Noah Hanifin supplied the offence for the visitors, while Jacob Markstrom and Dan Vladar split the goaltending duties - the latter playing the final 20 minutes after Markstrom was tagged for six goals on 26 shots.
But was a four-goal onslaught that spotted the Kings a 4-0 lead in the first period, and the homeside never looked back.
"When you're down 4-0, you pretty much have to flush it and start again, right?" said Head Coach Darryl Sutter. "No other way around it. (We) scored a powerplay goal to start the second.
"But 5-on-5, I think they dominated us."
Adrian Kempe and Carl Grundstrom each tallied a pair, while Drew Doughty, Gabe Vilardi, Viktor Arvidsson and Mikey Anderson added singles. Pheonix Copley had one of his easier nights between the pipes, finishing with 16 stops.
"I think they outworked us from the drop of the puck and pretty much every facet of the game," said Trevor Lewis. "We were too slow and got out-worked and that's what happens.
"For us to have any chance to make the playoffs here, we're going to have to work a lot harder and play our game (tonight)."

CGY@LAK: Toffoli hammers pass home for PPG

The Ducks were handed a 2-1 loss by the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday in the fourth of an eight-game homestand.
Ryan Strome scored Anaheim's lone goal, while John Gibson made 38 saves, as the Ducks lost for only the third time in regulation over their last 12 outings (6-3-3).
Gibson, who made 36 saves in a 3-1 win over the Flames on March 10 at the Scotiabank Saddledome, has made at least 35 stops in 22 games this season - the most in the NHL.
"We were kind of reacting rather than making things happen out there," Strome told NHL.com. "We didn't get a 60-minute effort.
"The first two periods we didn't have quite the emotion we needed. In the third period, we had some desperation. We put some pucks toward the net, and we forechecked hard and we were competitive. The first two periods we gave them way too much time and space."
300 HELPERS:
With his assist on Tyler Toffoli's team-leading 29th goal last night in Los Angeles, Mikael Backlund now has 300 career apples. In doing so, the 34-year-old became just the second Swedish-born skater in franchise history to eclipse 300 assists (Kent Nilsson - 333), and just the 11th Flame, overall, to achieve the feat with the Flames. With one more assist, Backlund will match his career high of 31 helpers, which he has hit twice before in his career (2016-17 and 2017-18).
DUCK HUNTER:
Elias Lindholm enters tonight's game with points in five of his last six games against the Ducks (5G, 2A). The centre recorded an assist on the Flames' lone tally in their most recent meeting with Anaheim, and has scored in three of his last four trips to the Honda Center. Lindholm currently has the most points among current Flames against the Ducks since he joined the club prior to the 2018-19 season (10).

Flames - Noah Hanifin
Hanifin scored his sixth goal of the season last night in Los Angeles, while firing a team-leading five shots on goal. The 26-year-old is now riding a five-game point streak, with a pair of goals and three helpers in that span.
Hanifin's six goals are the second-most he's recorded in a single season, trailing only his 10 goals from the 2021-22 and 2017-18 seasons.

CGY@LAK: Hanifin scores in 3rd period

Ducks - Max Comtois
Whenever the Flames face off with the Ducks, we typically reserve this spot for Trevor Zegras, Troy Terry or Mason McTavish.
Apologies for the swerve!
Comtois, though, led the charge with a goal and an assist in a 3-1 Ducks victory over the Flames 11 days ago. He, along with linemates Derek Grant and Calgary native Brett Leason, had an effective night on the forecheck and made life miserable on the Flames D corps.
While neither of the three players are what we could call world-beaters offensively, they played a simple, direct game that forced turnovers and allowed them to create offence off the cycle.
Backlund needs one game-winning goal to surpass Joe Mullen for sole possession of sixth place on the Flames' all-time list (33).
Hanifin scored his first NHL goal against the Ducks back on Nov. 16, 2015.
The Flames are 4-2-2 in the second half of back-to-back games this season.
