New day, new opportunity.
The Flames are looking to bounce back from a heartbreaking 4-3 overtime loss to the Senators on Monday night - a game that saw the visitors hold a 3-1 lead with just under three minutes to go until the Sens rattled off two goals in 46 seconds to force the extra session.
After a couple chances which included a Tyler Toffoli shot ringing iron, Tim Stutzle raced down the other end and scored the winner to complete the comeback.
That one stung for sure. But despite the loss, a lot to build on with how they played for the majority of the game.
"I thought we played really good for 57 or however minutes left," Dillon Dube said. "I thought we played a great game, even in overtime hit the post have a ton of chances. They get one on that break there, that's just how hard it is to win, especially at this time of year.
"There's lots to build off that game, that's our key right now and it's been said a lot but coming off that Buffalo game, those 57 minutes in Ottawa, some really good hockey by our team."
The Flames kick off a three-game homestand tonight, welcoming the Red Wings to the Scotiabank Saddledome in an inter-conference match-up.
It was exactly one week ago that the two clubs met, which saw the Wings skate away with a 2-1 win at Little Caesars Arena, with the Flames looking to exact some revenge.
"I don't think we created enough offence through the 60 minutes," Dube said about the last meeting. "I thought we had a good third period. The style of game they play with the 1-1-3 we need to adjust better to it and be ready for it right away. They controlled more of the game because of that."
The Flames find themselves tied for the last wild-card spot in the Western Conference with the Wild with 61 points.
Down to 28 games left on the sked, this playoff race is going to be a good one.
### 2. KNOW YOUR ENEMY
The Red Wings are riding high after a 5-4 shootout win over the Oilers last night, picking up their fourth straight win.
Dylan Larkin, Moritz Seider, Robby Fabrri and Olli Maatta all tallied for the visitors from the Motor City in regulation, while Ville Husso stopped 41 shots in the win.
It was a wild one, as Detroit jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes and led by counts of 3-1 and 4-2 at points of the tilt but Edmonton battled back to force the extra session.
David Perron and Connor McDavid would trade goals in the shootout before Pius Suter would end up scoring the winner in the fifth round giving them the extra point.
Detroit is 2-0 on its current five-game road swing and have matched a season-high win streak.
"Just winning on the road is difficult, let alone against a team like that with the type of offense they have," head coach Derek Lalonde told NHL.com. "There are moments when they put you on your heels, and it's important for the next shift or the next guy to step up, and I thought for the most part we managed the game fairly well tonight, and Husso was probably the difference in a tight game on the road."
"We've had a few of these games, being up in the third and then giving up the lead and not coming away with a win," Fabbri added. "It's not the way we drew it, but we found a way to win. It was a big effort on everyone's part tonight."
With their latest victory, the Red Wings have quietly creeped up in the wild-card race in the Eastern Conference, sitting just four points back of the Capitals and have three games in hand.
### 3. FAST FACTS
HUBY DOOBY DOO: Jonathan Huberdeau recorded an assist on the Flames first goal Monday night in Ottawa, giving him 26 on the season. His 26 helpers have him tied for third on the club with Toffoli who also recorded an assist against the Sens. Going back to the 2021-22 season, Huberdeau has collected 111 helpers which is tied for the third most among all players through that span.
PENALTY KILL PROFICIENCY: The Flames faced the league's third-best power play on Monday night in Ottawa and went a perfect 4/4 on the penalty kill. Ottawa had scored on the power play in six-straight games heading into the tilt, and Calgary became the first team to shut their power play down since January 21st. The Flames boast the NHL's sixth-best penalty kill at 82.4%, and the fourth best short-handed unit since the start of January at 88.6%.

### 4. PLAYERS TO WATCH
Flames - Dillon Dube
The speedy winger has been on a tear!
Dube has six points in his last two games (3G, 3A) and set a new career high with 33 points on the year thanks to a two-goal performance against the Sens on Monday.
"Give a lot of credit to the guys I've played with this year," he said on his success. "I've played with Naz and Mang at the start, Lindy and Toff now. They are high capable players, they've had a lot of success in the league. When you play with them you are a sponge and learning from them, feeling the game and that offensive side."

The Wings captain has been rolling coming off all-star break with nine points (6G, 3A) in his last five tilts, clicking at a point-per-game average thanks to the run.
Larkin scored Detroit's first goal against the Flames last week and with another powerplay marker last night in Edmonton, now is up to 11 snipes with the man-advantage.
### 5. POWER OF PICKLES
Blake Coleman has scored more goals against the Red Wings than he has against any other franchise with eight goals and has more points against the Wings and Blackhawks than any other team with 14. Coleman currently has the most career goals among active Texas-born players in the NHL with 99 and is looking to become just the second Texas-born NHLer to reach the 100-goal plateau, with the other being Brian Leetch. The Flames are 8-1-2 at the 'Dome when he scores.
