Filip Sveningsson

He was out of the room when it happened, but the feeling of excitement wasn't any different.
With their seventh-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, 202nd overall, the Flames selected left winger Filip Sveningsson from the HV 71 Jr. Swedish League.
The Swede was with his family watching the draft unfold throughout the day when the moment they had all been waiting for happened.
"I was out of the room when it happened and then my family were telling me to hurry back to come look that I was drafted," Sveningsson said. "I got pretty nervous when I realized I was drafted and when I saw that it was Calgary it was such an honour. It's such a great organization and I'm really excited."

During 37 games with the HV 71 junior team, Sveningsson was able to contribute offensively consistently with 29 points (15 goals, 14 assists) and is confident that there is more offensive upside to his game that he'll look to further develop.
The 6-foot, 200-pound forward tries to model his game after one of the most iconic NHL players to come out of Sweden in Peter Forsberg.
"It's not so easy, but I try to be like him. He's just so skilled and a great passer that can really do it all. The skill and delivery he has with the puck is just so special that really makes for being a great hockey player and I want to have that."
Known for his for puck skills and speed, the 18-year-old is aware that he has other areas in his game to polish up, and is prepared to put in any extra work to reach the next step.
"Nowadays you have to be good at both ends of the zone, not just one end," Sveningsson said. "I am a good skater who likes to shoot and pass and not shy away from the physical game but I still want to improve and develop my whole game."
As he relishes in the joys that come with being drafted, all those who helped him in his young career to achieve his dreams are the first to come to mind.
"I wouldn't be here without my friends and family," Sveningsson said. "My coaches and teammates as well, they pushed me hard to develop my game and be the player that I am. Without them I wouldn't be here, I couldn't do all of this without my friends and family."
