CALGARY - The Calgary Flames Foundation and YMCA Calgary are thrilled to announce that the Flames YMCA Grade 6 Program for this year's cohort of grade six students has been extended to December 31, 2020. The Calgary Flames Foundation and the YMCA also want to remind students and parents that this year's Calgary Flames YMCA Grade 6 Program opens on August 1st for this year's grade six students. Every grade six student in Calgary is eligible to receive a free YMCA 13 month membership to the YMCA.

YMCA Calgary doors will officially re-open today, on Monday July 20, 2020, and the Y's staff and volunteers look forward to connecting safely once again with grade six students in person and also virtually. In order to support grade six students - and all Calgarians - in the safest way possible, things will look and feel a bit different. What hasn't changed is the 118-year-old charity's commitment to creating meaningful and active experiences for families. This includes a series of safe, active and affordable outdoor programs happening this summer called YMCA Summer Moments. For more details on YMCA Calgary's re-opening, visit ymcacalgary.org.

In October the Calgary Flames Foundation announced a $1 million gift to the YMCA for the Flames YMCA Grade 6 Program. The partnership extended the support of the partnership that provides every grade six student in the City of Calgary with a free 13-month YMCA membership to any YMCA location in the City, bringing the total invested to $2.25 million.

The Flames and YMCA partnership launched in June 2014. This will be the seventh year of the program that offers free YMCA memberships to all grade 6 students in Calgary. The program has already provided 23,268 students with free memberships and active programming through special events and "Flames Friday" programming hosted every week at YMCA branches across Calgary. During the tenure of the program grade six members have already spent over 70,000 hours in over 4,300 registered programs. Each year the program has grown in membership to allow students to try activities and sports they may not have otherwise, while meeting new people and improving physical literacy. Members of the program have full access to programs offered at the YMCA.

To sign up a Grade 6 member, please visit any YMCA Calgary location with a Grade 5 report card or email [email protected].
