The Flames were all business Thursday night.
They wanted to get back on track, they wanted to play more the way they knew they could, and they wanted to get a win for Darryl Sutter in his first game back behind the bench.
Mission(s) Accomplished.

The Flames skated to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Montreal Canadiens, making up some ground in the 'four-point game' against a divisional opponent they trail in the standings.
Josh Leivo scored twice as his line - along with Derek Ryan and Sam Bennett - had a dominating night for the homeside.
Calgary controlled the game from start to finish, with a big edge in possession while keeping the Canadiens to the outside and limiting their chances.
Jacob Markstrom wasn't tested often, turning aside 17 shots.
Andrew Mangiapane had an early chance on a partial breakaway off a lovely stretch pass from Mikael Backlund, but he was tied up by Alexander Romanov and there was no whistle on the play.
Johnny Gaudreau set up Sean Monahan for a tough backhand shot in the slot later in the first, but Jake Allen was there for the stop.
The Habs went to the powerplay with with 2:44 left in the first, Nikita Nesterov sent off for high-sticking Joel Armia.
Mark Giordano broke his stick on a clearing attempt and had Elias Lindholm pass him his, leading to some man-up pressure with Markstrom making a big blocker save on Tomas Tatar who walked into the high slot all alone.
With three second left in Nesterov's penalty, Montreal got called for too many men so the Flames started the second with 1:14 of powerplay time.
They didn't capitalize but 42 seconds after their advantage expired, Leivo scored his second of the season off an odd-man rush, Bennett bringing it into the Montreal zone and passing to a trailing Ryan, who put a backhand pass around a Habs player that Leivo tipped home right on the doorstep between the pads of Allen.

An absolute monster shift on the forecheck by Milan Lucic led to him setting up a streaking Dillon Dube in the clear for a Grade-A chance, but his offering hit iron.
They rang another post off a long outlet pass from Markstrom to Bennett to Ryan to Leivo on a quick passing play.
Leivo made good on his next crack, though, converting on a botched outlet pass from Shea Weber, getting the puck in the slot and turning and snapping a shot bar down far-side at 13:55.

The Canadiens scored one in the third, just past the midway point, when Corey Perry tipped a Weber point-shot past a screened Markstrom.
Mangiapane was sent off for high-sticking with 6:06 left to play, with Markstrom making a big stop on Perry in tight during the advantage to preserve the lead.

THEY SAID IT:

Sutter on impressive win:
"I thought we played a patient game and pretty much a mistake-free game. There's probably six or seven turnovers that we're going to have to get out of our system, but to play against a team that doesn't give up much and come away with the win is - hey, we needed it. We were six points behind them coming into the game."

"You take it and get ready for the next one"

Leivo on his performance:
"It feels great. I don't think I get those goals without my linemates and the way we play played. We worked hard, created some turnovers, and I was just standing in the right spot. When you're ready for it, sometimes the puck goes in. I've got to give credit to my linemates."

"We knew we had to be ready"

Markstrom on victory:
"We played a great game. I think our forecheck was really good and, obviously, we spent more time in the O-zone than they spent time in our zone. I thought our urgency was really good and everybody was skating. It was a great effort and a great win."

"It was a great effort and a great win"
