CALGARY - The Flames may have to make a couple of changes up front when they host the Anaheim Ducks on Monday afternoon.
Mikael Backlund and Derek Ryan did not skate on Sunday due to illness and their status for the game has not yet been determined.
If both players are unable to suit up against Anaheim, the Flames had Mark Jankowski centering Backlund's usual line and Tobias Rieder skating in between Zac Rinaldo and Buddy Robinson during their practice on Sunday. However, given the fact both Backlund and Ryan are key penalty killers, interim head coach Geoff Ward noted the team may bring in another forward from Stockton to fill a special teams void if the pair are unable to play.
On defence, Alexander Yelesin skated alongside Oliver Kylington while Brandon Davidson alternated in during drills. Yelesin made his NHL debut last week when the Flames made a stop in LA on Wednesday. He logged 10:59 of ice time and had two shots in that game.
