The Flames had already caught a much-needed break on Tuesday in overtime.
The Wild had their game-winning marker overturned on video review, ruled offside. But the next turning point may have come from the bench, during the shootout.
The Flames were down to their final shooter, Nazem Kadri, to keep the game alive.
"I look to my right on the bench and (MacKenzie Weegar) literally had his helmet on backwards and had a smirk on his face, and I was like, 'You going rally caps?' and he's like, 'Yeah, you have to do it now," said Flames defenceman Noah Hanifin. "And I was like, 'Alright', and I threw it on and Naz went down and scored and we both started laughing, and we're like, 'We've got to leave this on the rest of the time.'"
"Then, Marky made a good stop and then Toff won it and we were both just dying laughing on the bench, it was pretty hilarious."

Rally caps. Rally helmets. Backward buckets. Whatever you want to call them, it worked.
And it was Weegar who sparked the good vibes.
"That time of the game, you know my part's usually done," said a chuckling Weegar. "That was me just doing my part, maybe a little rally cap and a little good luck, sending my juju. Hanny and I had a good chuckle after and a big hug.
"Next time we go into a shootout the rally caps will be back."

Weegar, Hanifin don 'rally caps'

But the question is, will they have a couple more teammates join in?
"I hope. We'll probably grab a few more guys - maybe Tanny, some guys that don't shoot, you know?" Weegar said.
"Oh yeah, for sure," added Hanifin. "I think a few of the guys saw us and they were laughing, I was hoping more guys were going to join in, but I think they were worried they were going to be on TV."
The rally cap is not an uncommon tradition - it's just normally reserved more for dugouts than benches.
"I've never seen the backwards hockey helmet on in a game before, so that was a first for me, but it was a good idea by Weegsy, I think he brought the good juju for us," said Hanifin.
And that may be exactly what this team needs right now as they continue their playoff push.
Some good vibes to go along with some good play.
"We've been getting some good bounces are way lately and it's about time. I thought a lot of times this year we've kind of got some tough bounces when we've played great games," said Weegar. "So, to get that offside call was nice."
Back-to-back wins over two of the top teams in the Central Division. But more importantly, climbing back up in the playoff race in the Western Conference, now just four points back of the Winnipeg Jets entering play on Friday.
"We're right there. Our game is at an all-time right now. Everybody is peaking at the right time, so if we can keep this going, we've got a little homestand and then we go back on the road," said Weegar.
"It's back and forth this month but big, important games and I think if we keep this same mindset and guys keep playing the way they are I think we're going to be okay."
They'll try to keep those good vibes going against Anaheim on Friday night.
