Back in the day, Blake Coleman was a bit of a big deal with the USHL's Indiana Ice.
So much so that even Dubuque star Johnny Gaudreau had trouble containing him.
"I was always just trying to catch Colesy in the scoring race," Gaudreau laughed at Thursday's morning skate. "You'd always see him, six, seven points a night."
"Yep," Coleman replied. "The tables have turned!"

How modest.
(And, yes, painfully accurate.)
Gaudreau, 17 at the time, had 36 goals and 72 points with the juggernaut Fighting Saints. But Coleman, too, led his club in scoring - a year older and, apparently, wiser offensively, as he racked up a gaudy 92 points (34G, 58A) in 59 games.
The two are teammates now, but had a good laugh prior to Thursday's game against Coleman's old squad, the two-time defending Cup champs. It's what sparked the exchange, when Postmedia's Wes Gilbertson quizzed Gaudreau on the physical play and similarities, if any, between the Lightning and the old USHL rivals, 10 years on.

"There's going to be those highs and lows"

"I remember they had a really good line," Coleman said of his Gaudreau. "Zemgus (Girgensons) and (Vinny) Saponari played with him. It was one of those things. Obviously, you're aware of who the best players in the league were and Johnny was always really tough to defend and still is to this day,
"So, I'm really happy we're sitting next to each other now."
"It was a fun league to play in," added Gaudreau. "For me, personally, I got to win there, too, so it was a lot of fun.
"But I remember chasing this guy around the ice, too."
