win

If you squinted hard enough, you could probably see the kitchen sink sitting out on the Scotiabank Saddledome ice Saturday night.
The Flames threw everything they had at Red Wings goalie Thomas Greiss, peppering him with pucks all night long but the visiting 'tender made a heckuva one-night case for the Vezina, single-handedly keeping his team in the game.
In the end, though, the Flames got the win thanks to a first-period tally from Elias Lindholm and two third-period markers from Tyler Toffoli and Blake Coleman, as they prevailed 3-0 to improve to 36-15-7 this season.

Matthew Tkachuk finished the night with a pair of helpers.
It was Lindholm's 30th of the season, setting a career high mark (he scored 29 in 2019-2020 season).
According to Sportsnet Stats, he became the first Flames player to score 30 goals in fewer than 60 games since Jarome Iginla in 2006-07.
It also extended his home scoring streak to an impressive 16 straight games.
Oliver Kylington missed the game and is listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
Michael Stone drew into the lineup to skate alongside Chris Tanev, the veteran playing his first game since Dec. 5. Both players drew assists on Coleman's goal.
The Flames led 19-1 in shots after one and 31-5 after 40 minutes, holding a hefty edge in scoring chances. The final shot count was 43-19 for Calgary.
Jacob Markstrom was excellent and notched his ninth shutout of the season.
It's a quick turnaround now for the Flames, as they will face the Avs Sunday night in Denver to finish out a crazy run of six games in nine days.
The first period was ALL Flames, as they had 12 scoring chances but only found twine once.
The familiar combo of Johnny Gaudreau and Lindholm connected on an early passing play, the latter running out of room to shot from a tight angle. Then it was Rasmus Andersson trying to stuff it in the net from the right post but was stymied, followed by Dillon Dube driving across the crease and going airborne, unable to tuck the puck around Greiss, the biscuit sitting in the blue paint to then be knocked out of harm's way.
Lindholm got Calgary on the board when he skated in and split a pair of Detroit blueliners and walked down mainstreet before snapping a mid-range wrist shot blocker side past Greiss at 9:22 while on the powerplay.

They led 9-1 in shots at that point.
In the second period, the Flames kept coming in waves and dominating possessions by hemming the Wings in their own zone, but Greiss continued to stand on his head.
He made a stop on Tkachuk who put a backhand fivehole as he dove, the Detroit 'tender squeazing the wickets tight enough to keep it from trickling through. He later kicked out a Toffoli breakaway offering with his right pad to keep it a one-goal hole, and made another in-tight stop on Tkachuk after a behind-the-net feed from Gaudreau.
The Wings got their first powerplay at 13:08 of the second but the Flames PK held them without a shot and Nikita Zadorov had a breakaway chance when he came out of the box, but Greiss stopped his low shortside attempt.
Calgary notched its 30th shot of the night with just under four minutes left in the middle stanza. The Wings, meanwhile, had four shots.
The second goal came after Lindholm won the faceoff on a powerplay in the third, the puck going back to the point to Gaudreau and then down to Tkachuk, who feed Toffoli for a backdoor tap in at 8:25.

Milan Lucic and Givani Smith gave their own nod to the '80s theme night later with a fight, the Flames forward getting the decision.
Coleman drove the net and tipped one in at 15:38, ending up in the net himself after the PP tally. The goal was challenged and after review, the officials upheld it and Detroit was given a penalty.
