WOLF NAMED WHL GOALTENDER OF THE YEAR

Another day, another honour for Dustin Wolf.

The Flames prospect has been named the 2019-20 WHL Goaltender of the Year thanks to his 34-10-2 season with the Everett Silvertips.

The award, which has been won by the likes of Carter Hart, Darcy Kuemper, Carey Price, and Cam Ward, is voted on by WHL general managers and head coaches.

Wolf posted a 1.88 GAA, a .935 save percentage, and nine shutouts during the regular season, leading all WHL netminders in those categories. His 34 wins is tied for first with Portland's Joel Hofer.

"Another great season in Everett - I can't thank my team and my coaches enough for all the support they've given me throughout it," he told CalgaryFlames.com earlier this month.

"(I'm proud of) gaining more experience and becoming more of a leader in the room - you play more games, it's obviously going to come along with it. Coming out of camp last year, there were a few points of emphasis on a few different aspects of my play ... playing the puck a ton more, I got a lot of chances to do that this year. Made some big strides.

"I also continued to improve my overall game. I thought I made some big steps. Obviously there's a long way to go but progress is always good."

The goaltender, who was selected by the Flames in the seventh round (214th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft, has appeared in 127 regular season games for Everett, recording a career 88-31-6 record with a 1.85 GAA and a .934 save percentage. He has 20 shutouts in his junior areer, which is currently tied for fifth all-time in WHL history.

The Flames signed Wolf to a three-year entry-level contract on May 1.

"It's very exciting, not only for myself but as a family and all the people who have supported me along the way," he said after inking his first NHL contract. "This is where the work begins."
