RALEIGH, NC - The National Hockey League today announced that Carolina Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho has been named its "Second Star" for the week ending December 12.

Aho, 24, tallied seven points (5g, 2a) in three games last week, posting at least two points in each of those games. The 6'0", 173-pound forward ranked tied for second in the NHL in goals and tied for fourth in points over that span despite missing the game at Vancouver on Dec. 12 due to illness, and his 2.33 points per game were the most of any NHL player skating in at least two games last week. Aho tallied two points (1g, 1a) in a 4-2 win at Winnipeg on Dec. 7 and scored both of Carolina's goals, including the overtime winner, in a 2-1 victory at Calgary on Dec. 9. He then finished the week by factoring on all three Hurricanes goals (2g, 1a) in a 3-1 win at Edmonton for his fifth consecutive multi-point game.
Aho has posted two or more points in each of his last five games played dating back to Dec. 2 against Ottawa, marking the longest streak of multi-point games by any player since relocation and tied for the third-longest such streak in franchise history. He has now recorded 32 points (15g, 17a) through 26 games in 2021-22 and leads the Hurricanes in goals, assists and points after pacing the team in all three categories last season. Aho ranks tied for ninth in the NHL in goals and tied for fifth in points, and his team-leading six power-play goals rank tied for fourth in the league. The Rauma, Finland, native has now earned 352 points in his NHL/Hurricanes career (160g, 192a), and with his second goal at Winnipeg on Tuesday, he passed Sami Kapanen (1995-03: 145g, 203a) for the most points by a Finnish-born player in franchise history. Selected by Carolina in the second round, 35th overall, of the 2015 NHL Draft, Aho ranks second in career goals among his draft class and fourth in career points.
This marks the third time that Aho has been named one of the NHL's Three Stars of the Week, as he was named First Star for the week ending Feb. 5, 2017 and Third Star for the week ending Oct. 14, 2018. He was also previously named Central Division Star of the Month for April 2021.
